ABOUT
Einy Åm Sparks is a native Norwegian, Brooklyn based contemporary dance artist, who is dedicated to creating innovative and ground breaking performances that challenge the way we see and experience dance. Her work experiments with stylized pedestrian movement and release based modern dance techniques, and challenges the borderline between dance and theater through exploring the limitations of a specific space and props to find hidden possibilities and further meaning in each movement. The work engages the audience through different prosceniums, through the unique movement vocabulary, and by integrating the voice and live music, for it all to come together to tell a story. Einy Åm seeks to question, inspire and motivate, through work that is delicate, clever and articulate, yet still accessible to the general public. Einy’s choreography has been presented at venues like Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, Dance New Amsterdam, The Winter Garden, Chez Bushwick, White Wave John Ryan Theater and 92nd St Y, among others. In addition to shorter pieces, Einy has choreographed three evening length pieces in collaboration with her father and composer, Magnar Åm. These concerts all incorporated a large chorus, live musicians and one or more dancers.
