MONTASJAR (constructions)

MONTASJAR (constructions) is an interdisciplinary performance that explores the local history of the construction of propellers and gears for large ships in Volda, Norway. In recent times manual labor and art have been separated and placed in different spheres. However, in this piece, the artists attempt to mount them back together by letting images and sounds from the industrial production become part of a performance where music, dance, and film create a dynamic whole, an artistic montage.

The dance and the music are largely improvised, within a set structure of pre-edited films and a set selection of instruments for each section. This means that each performance is unique, as the creation of the piece happens right there and then, in a collaborative artistic conversation between the performers.

The performance is comprised of six different sections, which can be performed either separately or all together as a 1 hour-long performance, or in any other combination of the various sections.
